Sometimes a single door is all it takes to change how a space functions. That was exactly the situation here - a homeowner in Pleasant Grove needed a way to contain sound from their piano room without tearing up the existing trim or turning the job into a major renovation.

Here's what we were working with: an open doorway that let piano sound travel freely into the rest of the house. The goal was to add a proper door and a transom window above it - enough to close off the noise while still keeping light flowing between the spaces. Simple in concept, but the execution matters a lot when you're trying to work within existing casing and keep disruption to a minimum.

We kept the existing casing in place and fit the new craftsman-style door and transom unit right into the opening. That's the kind of finish carpentry detail that separates a clean job from one that looks pieced together. Matching the trim, keeping the lines tight, not blowing up the surrounding wall - that's the whole game on a job like this.

The transom above the door does double duty. It lets light pass through while the door itself handles the sound separation. For a music room that gets regular use, that balance matters. You get the acoustic benefit without making the space feel closed off or dark.

Jobs like this are a good reminder that not every problem needs a massive project to solve. A focused, well-executed install can make a home noticeably more livable - and we were in and out in a day.
